After a few initial test shots this is the first real attempt at doing a star trail shot. On following nights I have been prevented from trying again due to the battery not lasting through the exposure, frost, rain, and solid cloud cover.
I didn't take as many photos in New York as I was hoping, and those that I did were all focused around the east village. I'll try to get some more early in December.
Gorilla Pod and ND filter. Shooting at the corner next to mud while drinking coffee.
At the sight of the camera, crouching at the edge of the sidewalk on its little gorilla-pod legs, two Japanese girls passing by pointed at it and yelled かわいい!! (kawaii) in almost perfect unison.. If you google for "gorillapod" you will see they do kind of look like little creatures.
First in a night series I am working on. Hand held with the 24mm TS-E f/3.5 L. I will be shooting more like this one around my neighborhood over the next few nights.
Since I didn't feel like bringing a tripod all the way from Tokyo, I picked up a Gorilla Pod at the suggestion of a friend, so I should be able to get some longer exposures than just the hand held stuff. As well as get some use out of my ND and polarizing filters.
This November I'm back in New York beginning work on a series of US based photo projects, starting in the city and shooting locations in New England and Florida before returning to Japan in mid January next year. Please leave me feedback and criticisms on the photos I post.
Spending Time in both New York and Tokyo, Shane first started taking photos as a part time hobby and over the course of two years has become an entirely self taught professional, specializing in portrait and event photography.
